As a visual artist and television maker,
I am always looking for experiment, storytelling and a documentary approach to subjects.
Art
In my multidisciplinary work I focus on the friction between the analogue and digital worlds. By using both older and newer techniques, I look for the poetry that lies in images that focus on deceleration instead of acceleration.
Traces of human and machine failure are common visual aspects in what I do. To explore these traces, I make use of various techniques, such as photography, video, graphics, installation, etc. For example, leaking light in an analogue camera or the appearance of pixels in large screen prints. I prefer to embrace these artefacts as a beauty rather than perceive them as common mistakes. The value of craft for me is not in its perfect execution, but in the imperfection that brings out the humanity. Means and ends merge into an assemblage, a composition in search of the thin line between skill and incompetence.
I have a background as documentary editor, traces of which can be found in my artistic practice. In the images I work with, the intention of narrative is never far away. The viewer is just not given enough clues to interpret certain images. Who is the ultimate conductor of the story anyway?
Television
As an editor and director, I mainly work on documentary and human interest programs that are for me necessary to make. Translating stories to the viewer without losing sight of the complexity is my passion. The human aspect is always at the top of the priority list. Through a poetic and empathetic approach I try to bring it out as best as possible.
